Event Details

EngConnect your Career is an Engineers Australia initiated event series for students, graduates and industry professionals looking to transition their career keen to hear from engineers about where their engineering studies have taken them. This session will feature speakers from Environmental engineering disciplines and showcase the diversity of career opportunities.

After a welcome to Engineers Australia, a number of engineers will share their career stories with you, followed by networking with speakers, and engineers from a number of our technical groups.

All events are being hosted in the Engineers Australia auditorium in the Perth office, 5pm for a 5.30pm start WST.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Should WA State Government restrictions in relation to Covid-19 impact the ability for this event to run in-person, a WebEx meeting link will be issued to attend online.

Speakers

Martin Anda
Chair of Environmental Engineering, Murdoch University

Martin is an environmental engineer with over 30 years’ experience in the energy, water and resource recovery sectors since completing a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) degree at UWA. He completed a PhD at Murdoch University and became Director of the UNEP Environmental Technology Centre, later chairing the Environmental Engineering program. He manages postgraduate researchers in a group called Environmental Engineering & Living Systems (EELS) on a range of renewable energy, water, and waste related projects. His current projects include development of the first commercialized geopolymer low-carbon concrete products manufacturing facility (Colliecrete) in Collie, Western Australia.

Holly Knight
Fortescue Future Industries Priority Projects – Sustainability

A career specialist in sustainability, ESG, carbon, water and climate change with more than 20 years of experience in both the private and public sector.

Holly has held senior roles in government including Director Environment Heritage and Parks at Rottnest Island / Wadjemup, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and as Head of Sustainability for the London 2012 Olympic Delivery Authority.
Prior to the Olympics Holly consulted in the UK and was a member of the founding team to establish a successful carbon start-up and worked with industry and government on the emerging carbon and climate change markets in London.

As a respected public speaker, Holly has been invited to speak on sustainable construction, climate change, water and carbon management in Japan, Brazil, London, France, USA, Australia and on international zoom broadcasts. In July 2013 She completed a master’s degree at the University of Cambridge on Interdisciplinary Design in the Built Environment (IDBE). The thesis analysed the value of sustainability in mega-construction, using lifecycle carbon as a proxy to compare stadia and the design and construct methodology used by each team.

Manon Gebauer
Water Resources Engineer, Aurecon

After study a Master of Professional Engineering in Environmental Engineering at the University of Western Australia, Manon entered the workforce through a graduate program just before the world was struck by the pandemic. Now, Manon works as Senior Consultant in the “Environment and Planning - Water” Team at Aurecon. Manon works with clients from a range of markets to provide water solutions to clients while preserving the quality and quantity of environmental water. She aims to achieve this through a range of project ranging from advice and assessments of water sustainability, environmental impact and contamination as well as conducting design activities of stormwater channel naturalisation, stormwater treatment trains, hydrological and water balance modelling, and Water Sensitive Urban design.

Ashley Olsson
Sustainability Consultant, Evolveable Consulting

Ashley has over fifteen years of experience working globally across highly complex infrastructure and energy projects, embedding sustainability in design across the project lifecycle. Ashley has advised executives of ASX-listed companies on corporate-level sustainability and decarbonisation strategies. Ashley has now founded Evolveable Consulting, helping companies and large projects with their sustainability transition, focusing on delivering circular solutions.
