Learn about engineering internships and how they can benefit your organisation from Eric Jas, Principal Consultant and Company Director at Atteris Pty Ltd. Eric worked with intern, William Hijadat.

How did you advertise the internship opportunity?

Engineers Australia Elevation events (annual career fairs)

Why did you select this particular student for the internship opportunity?

I spoke to a large number of candidates at the Engineers Australia Elevation event. After several interviews with a shortlisted group of people, I proposed to my colleagues in the Leadership Team three candidates fit for recruitment as an intern based on their competence, ability to speak and write proper English, expected potential to fit in with the rest of the team and their ability to learn, grow and develop with the type of work we do.

You advertised the internship opportunity at Engineers Australia's event, Elevation. Can you tell me about why you chose this avenue?

Two of the reasons William was put forward to the leadership team for consideration for an internship were his expected potential to fit in with the rest of the team, and his ability to learn, grow and develop with the type of work you do. Can you tell us about how William demonstrated these traits when you met him?

What is your favourite story / memory about this internship?

With William, I felt there was an immediate connection. Most interns are relatively shy, William isn’t. He expresses himself well and appears competent.

Were you directly involved with the supervision of the student on placement (e.g., mentoring, supervisor)?  If so, did it contribute to your PD?

William performs a number of tasks on different projects. I have only directly supervised him on a few minor tasks. I rely on others in my team to work closely with him.
